|Information||Palliative Care Services
Bereavement follow-up is often a key component in palliative care. Trained staff and volunteers help people who are experiencing grief and loss. Bereavement services can be through home visits, drop-in care groups or support groups.
Specialized Palliative Care Nursing and Volunteer Services
VON provides the necessary care and support services to allow people to live out their days in familiar surroundings close to family and friends, while still having expert level pain and symptom control. The nurse works with the client and family to help the dying person have the best quality of life possible in the time remaining. Many palliative care programs also integrate volunteers, to supplement nurse visits. Volunteers can provide respite to tired family members and companionship to the person who is ill. Working as an integrated team, volunteers report on changes in the client's status, and nurses provide direction and volunteer support.
